At Lancaster University, they’re unraveling the secrets of how to build a universe. In fact, they have already formed one, or something very much like it. This scientific breakthrough lies in the bottom of a chamber no larger than your pinky finger, filled with helium and cooled to 0.0003 degrees Fahrenheit above absolute zero.

By placing helium in a state which most closely resembles the form it held at the beginning of the universe, scientists have created an opportunity for the gas to go through several low-energy evolutions. These defects in space-time, are represented by tiny whirlpools in the helium, which are created by the rapid expansion, and equally rapid slowing of the expansion; something that it’s believed our own universe did at the big bang and in the moments thereafter.

How, then, did our universe go from whirlpools that could fit in a thimble to galaxies larger than our imaginations can properly comprehend? Physicists, ever ready with their dry wit, have deemed these phenomena “inflation.” Nobody knows how this works or why, this happened; vast amounts of energy aren’t something you’d like to replicate in a lab. Black holes and supernovas aren’t pleasant lab partners. It’s quite evident to the researchers however, that inflation, or something very much like it took place and, lacking the ability to do field research of lab trials, they have built scale models. This is where the tiny galaxies come in.

The theory being presented by the physicists in Lancaster University is that inflation is the product of violent competition: a series of collisions between universes known as “3-branes;” a term related to string theory which I’m frankly not smart enough to explain to you. Suffice to say that our universe is one, because it exists in 3-5 dimensions.

What the string theorists claim is that in a collision of two 3-branes, or two different modes of pure helium like that containing the mini-galaxy, the universe will rapidly expand and stop instantly, mimicking the halting advance of the universe’s growth. Remarkably, when super cooled helium in different phases is mixed, it does exactly that: symmetries in the solution disappear, and aberrations form; the first step in several that lead to the forming of galaxies out of nothing. The secrets of the universe it seems, aren’t safe for long.

Who am I?

This in fact is the name of one of movies that I really like, but this time I am simply thinking of the general meaning of this question. I don't know how often other people think about 'who they are?' or 'what have they become?', well this question comes to my mind ones in like 3 years or so. To not give a wrong idea l will try to make this a bit more clear, for example when I became 14 I thought that I became an adult and that now I am tougher, stronger smarter and who knows what else crossed my mind then, basically I thought I got rid of the need for help from others or that now I am completely independent. It may partially true but the situation proved to be a bit different from that. Well let just say that pretty soon I got the message, that its just another step towards becoming 'a man'. After that I had some time to just grow up, well I made the same mistake when I became 18, I said to myself, this is it!, I am 18 now, say goodbye to childhood! Again, wrong! Being 18 proved to me that it doesn't mean that now one needs to be non-stop serious and no more games or no more time for fun, just simply work. Then it was study time for me for couple  years. Last six years brought to me a lot of ups and downs, a good part of life right there.

If you still wondering why I am saying all this and why now? Well its just that really, seriously I thought that I was a strong man and prepared for everything and that nothing can bring me down, well I kind of wrong, underestimated challenges that can come to ones life. This is not all bad, you learn from mistakes some say!

So, now I am guessing that this phase of growing up, learning,......., and such, never stop!!!! Does it??????????

Driving lessons

Last week I have started taking driving lessons, I am aware that to some people this may seem a little strange, well it isn't, I simply don't have the driving license! Tonight will be the 11-nth driving lesson for me, I think its going well, hope so!

Sometime I feel like a kid, I should of done it when it was the time (when I was 18, but I couldn't afford it then, even though it isn't expensive). Anyway its cool, I like driving the car, i never drove a car before last week, however I have driven tractors before which is not that similar to driving a car! :) .

Its a struggle to find time for these lessons and hope to get the licence this year!

Work work night and day....

OK, that is just an old saying (the title), but the work is (kind of) going well too. Always wondered what will my first mistake be at work. It was not that bad, I just sent an email to the CEO of the Agency without attaching a document that I was suppose to attach, yep that felt really bad. Anyway its fun to go to work in the morning, what I am doing now may not meet expectations but its certainly a good and much needed experience. I'm not gonna write more cause i'm not sure that anyone actually reads this blog.

New born

Newest member of our family Rajana, my sister gave birth to this amazing babe this morning, they are both well. Wow, in deed this is a very fresh picture of Rajana. I love the name they chose, everybody is vary happy, this is simply a great news. There is nothing left do say, thank you God for giving us the opportunity to witness these great moments!

Going home

Yes, it's been two days now that I am done with my studies, dissertation is handed in, presentation finished. Well I don't have the results but it doesn't matter. Hoping to have the results soon!

Its a good feeling to be free, it was an intense year of studies, very challenging, sometimes very boring and completely out of my liege, but I have tried, maybe I haven't given the best possible but I am pretty sure I have made a decent effort. The end of studies brings mixed feelings, glad to be done and that I'm going home, but sad to be leaving the county in the moment that I was kind of adjusting with the life here and I was just starting to make sense of what my studies are about.

Naturally, a question comes to mind, what next? Well, the usual answer, I don't know! For one thing I am sure, I will be going home and wait for the government to find me a job, cause that's what the contract that I have signed says(that all the beneficiaries of the scholarship with be working for the governments administration for two years after they finish they studies). I did have a job before leaving to go home here, I was working with Miss Lynn as an English teacher, but the plan was to not continue to do that for long cause it would be fair for the kids because I'm a bad and a non qualified English teacher. I also applied as a Custom officer last year and I was called to go to work about to weeks after I left Kosova. I felt kind of sorry about not being able to not go and work there, but also felt that this degree is more important for me.

I think the biggest reason (not really sure even....) why I chose to come for Master's studies in England was to get some experience working in English and being for away from home. So I knew it will be hard time to time. I don't know how much I have benefited from coming here, but I surely am proud to have decided to come here and I am sure that I have learned something from spending this time here. I should say that I have experienced some great moments and discovered many thing in life that I was not aware of but have also discovered some things in life that I wish I never I had discovered. That's it, no regrets, no looking back, just moving forward! I should consider (even though It may never) continuing my studies and see if there is any opportunity for me to get a scholarship for PHD in Applied Social Statistics or even in other subject related to either applied social statistics or economy. O well just dreaming I guess.

And finally my friends, thank you for your support, sometimes just simple words meant a lot to me, encouragements from my family friends and colleagues have pushed me foreword and sometimes without that support and help it would have been vary hard to move forwards. So thank you guys! I say greetings to everyone from England for the last time as I will be leaving the country vary soon.

Movie night

Last night me and my friend Wonnyon went shopping and this was after trying couple a days ago when we went and found out that all stores were closed, because it was late. Usually shop late at night in one of stores that works 24h. Anyway it was closed last night as well and knowing that tomorrow is Sunday and on Monday is the Bank Holiday, we wont be able to go shopping for couple of days, Wonnyon was very frustrated. He was like wait for me till I smoke a cigarette and relax a bit. Well we already were in the city so I told him that we should go and have some fun (well we are very busy with our work so we kind of never go out, ever). It was around 23:00 so we went to the cinema and watched the movie

The movie had nice visual effects, the screen is really big, not to many people there, sitting in the front row-to close to the screen. Bottom line good but not an interesting movie, but felt good being in cinema, as always.

May it's worth mentioning the fact that the girl that was selling tickets was unbelievably silly, we bought tickets together and ordered coke and popcorn and she brought us just one popcorn and one coke, so my friend and I were looking at each other and I said no no Miss we want a popcorn and a coke each and everyone of us two ahahahhaha , but the only thing that my friend Wonnyon said was "I am not interested in men" meaning that we are NOT a couple and of course there was a big laughter after that. The worst thing is that the girl just said "sure sure" and walked away...... to bring us one more coke. Soooo lame!

Summer 2006

Just scanned this picture that was taken in 2006, life was so much ......easier back then hahahhahah.

A lot have changed (except for getting olderrrr I still look as crap as I do in this photo hehehh).

Anyway, I feel like this week was the most challenging week of my life (apart for the time during the war and you know). However I believe that this experience that I am getting by working on my dissertation and that having to do it all in such a short time is turning into a BIG challenge but its also a great lesson to me, I hope!

(Please don't ask me where i got the idea to post this! I swear it just came to me out of the blue!)

Friends, sorry for not updating the blog for a long time! I am trying to start writing the dissertation, but i am getting very late with analysis which makes things difficult. Therefore i haven't been able to update the blog recently.
The plan is to finish with analysis as soon as possible than to start writing up the results and everything. The presentation of the dissertation is on 4 of September and the final submission date is on 14 of September. Wish me luck, cause i'm in trouble :) I haven't a single line :(
Anyway I'ts been a month since i have moved to town (I was staying in campus), I met to great guys who are living in the house that i am in right now, Rob and Wonnyon, great guys. Just a week ago my friend Bedri came back from Kosova so now I have an Albanian friend in the house. Its great having Bedri around cause he pushes me to working more, its a great blessing to have a friend like him, a man with many qualities!

Lake District

Last weekend we had a special guest, my friend's (Hamit's) brother. We always enjoy his visits since he is a very cheerful guy and make as all laugh and it's always fun to have him around.
On Saturday we decided to visit one of the most beautifully places in England, Lake District. This is an area, as the name suggest, with many lakes and wonderful site-seeings, simply a great place to visit.
Another reason for this short break was the fact that we were working on the last paper for the year and it was kind of like celebrating the end of the semester and the beginning of the
dissertation project , which will take all summer to accomplish.

Good thing about visiting Lake Districts that it's not very far away and it doesn't cost much and it's an amazing place, really great. The air was fresh, the weather was good, it rained a bit but it was not too bad.
When we arrived at the Windermere we decided to walk to the lake (At this place Windermere is the closest lake that one can visit, and possibly the biggest lake in the Lake District zone) instead of bus. Probably we should of taken the bus as it was a 20 min walk, it becomes boring when it's
too much!
Finally we were at the lake enjoying the beautiful view, we were hungry, eat sandwiches, little rest and there it was boat ride time!
So we took a boat ride across the lake, I loved it.
The water was so clear, I felt like jumping there a million times during the ride, it's a shame that it's usually too cold to swim in that water. It would of been fun.
Ohh well just enjoying those moments and breathing int that amazingly fresh air was enough.

Now that the Term is over everybody is leaving
the campus, most of my friends have left, some are still packing to leave on 6th of July when our contract of staying in campus expires and we do not want to renew it because it will be pretty depressing in the campus during the summer. In Monday I will be going to London stay there for two days then go and move in to the new apartment, so tomorrow I will be packing and I prepare for the next meeting that I have with my supervisor before leaving for London in Monday, I really have to 'produce' something by then :(

Plans for the near future

That's how me future plans look like in simple drawing. In the lack of words sometimes pictures say more. This is mostly a joke OK. By the way that's how my life is right how, except for the cat that is missing. And what do you folks thing about the name of the cat, when I get one should I name it (if her) Lussy?, I kinda like that as a cat-name(I don't think such name exists for humans). I have heared that Americans name their cats after peoples names. I swear if someone names his/her cat after me is a dead man walking!

I can't believe it!

Some days ago I heard the news form Albania where a person was killed during election campaign. I can't believe these things are still happening, right at the time that countries in the Southeastern Europe pretend to be part of EU. I just can't imagine how someone can take somebodies life because he support some other political party!

It's stories like this that make believe that in our region a lot has to be done before we can say that we are living in a country where all human rights are guarantied ( if such thing exists).

I also am surprised (a bit, not that much :)) with the fact that I haven't received any phone call, SMS or e-mail in such a long time ( except from some people of course). I was not trying to be funny or for any other reason when I say that, it's just communication now days is so easy, there are so many ways one can just say 'hi you stranger, whats up?'. But nooooooo I don't know, I guess that's how life is ...... right! Everybody looking their own business! That was not my perception about the world, but hey cheers to all the good things in our lives and countless blessings sent to our lives by our Creator.

Patience is a good (and maybe hard sometimes ) virtue to have, so be patient.......

Weekly prayer

Today in our weekly prayer the Imam (the lecturer, the one who gives the lecture and leads the prayer-please notice he was wearing a football shirt) talked about one of my favorite topics JUSTICE.

He started by stating basic facts such are there is only one God ..... and strait to the topic by stating the definition of justice (in Islam style):

"In the Islamic worldview, justice denotes placing things in their rightful place. It also means giving others equal treatment. In Islam, justice is also a moral virtue and an attribute of human personality, as it is in the Western tradition. Justice is close to equality in the sense that it creates a state of equilibrium in the distribution of rights and duties, but they are not identical. Sometimes, justice is achieved through inequality, like in unequal distribution of wealth"

Thats good, but this needs some foundation, well here it is what God declares in the Quran:

“God commands justice and fair dealing...” (Quran 16:90)

And in another passages:

“O you who believe, be upright for God, and (be) bearers of witness with justice!...” (Quran 5:8)
Therefore, one may conclude that justice is an obligation of Islam and injustice is forbidden. The centrality of justice to the Quranic value system is displayed by the following verse:
“We sent Our Messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Measure in order to establish justice among the people…” (Quran 57:25)

“And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words.” (Quran 6:115)

“Let not the hatred of a people swerve you away from justice. Be just, for this is closest to righteousness…” (Quran 5:8)

“God does not forbid you from doing good and being just to those who have neither fought you over your faith nor evicted you from your homes...” (Quran 60:8)

“…If you judge, judge between them with justice…” (Quran 5:42)

So based in what is said above being just is very important. Therefore it can be said that there is no excuse to be unjust to anyone or in any situation. Of course sometimes it can be hard since it may, in some way, contradict our momentous interests (we are humans=mistakes are taken to be a normal thing in our life, of course one needs to repent for his\her mistakes).

But we can not (well, we should not) allow that to happen ( let those self-centred interests get in our way of being just).

Here is how the Quran puts it:

“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents, and your relatives, or whether it is against the rich or the poor...” (Quran 4:135)

“…When you speak, speak with justice, even if it is against someone close to you…” (Quran 6:152)

OK now this is clear, be fair, be just to anyone ...... but why am mentioning it here (when we take for granted that everybody knows this)!

Well, it's good to remind to ourselves things that are important ( and if I ever was unjust to anyone in any way, I am sorry).

One questions sometimes raises in my head, if God is just ( and there is no doubt that He is), how comes He allows for children to be killed, defenceless women, children and old people to be abused and persecuted ,...............,?

OK let's make an attempt to explain why this is the way it is with an example ( I have a history of choosing bad examples, but lets give it a go, since it's for a good cause).

To play a football match players need to agree with the rules of the game. Whats the point of the game? Well some play for the pleasure of scoring goals, others for money, so they can be with friends, be healthy........ and many other reasons. But to be able to do that they need accept the rules, so players do know that they can get injured but they still play because they believe that it is worth bearing that risk in order to enjoy the pleasure of scoring goals or whatever.

So whenever you are in a difficulty just remember that it's worth going through some difficulties in order to live some really great moments that are waiting for you (even if those moments are very short ahhahhahaha).

It's like, in a month you have had 20 bad days and about 10 other days just the routine life, but in the last day of the month you get a visit from someone you love and you forget all those bad days. Sorry, I am deviating from the topic a bit but what I really am trying to say is live your life, make the most of it.

After all tomorrow is Saturday, it will be a boring day for me (just the routine) but I am sure it will be A GREAT DAY at least for someone I know hahahhahhaha.

Edinbourgh

....visit to Edinbourgh turned out to be a really good idea! we ( me and my friend Bedri , Hana and Hamit) had fun and enjoyed hanging around and being away from studies for a change.......

After about two hours of train ride we arrives to Edinbourgh, the capital city of Scotland, a historic city and simply a great place to visit.

The whether was cold, that was expected, but the sun was shinning.... so we decided to take a walk towards the Castle but of course it started raining, even though we had umbrellas with us we were trying to find a shelter because the wind was pretty strong and something that it maybe worth saying haying at this point is that Albanians don't like standing in the rain "like idiot's" ..... so they say!

Unanimously we decided to avoid walking around the city while it was raining, therefore we decided to take a tour round the city by bus, which was not that cheep but it was totally worth it because we could even listen to various historic facts about the city. But of course after couple of minutes it stopped raining, hahhahahhahah

this made the bus ride even more enjoyable






Anyway, at some point we decided to hop out of the bus and walk up to the Castle from were the city looked really beautiful, the view was just fantastic.

we didn't go inside the castle, which might have been interesting, because we wanted to visit as more places as possible, because we were there only during the day. We couldn't visit all the nice spots of the city. One more reason to visit Edinbourgh again!



We also visited this thing called Camera Obscura from we could see the city live and the guider showed as some more things about the city and we went to enjoy some other attractions of this place if you care enough what this place is see this site http://www.camera-obscura.co.uk/

..... and at the end, it was time to head back home (I call that small room at the dorms of the university home)

were happy because we had a great time but sad at the same time because all this fun was coming to the end and we then will have to go back to our studies that are a real mess right now!

It's moments like this the world a great place to be ( otherwise we have enough concerns and problems so need to balance everything).

Friday-Planning the Escape

My friends and I have decided to visit Edinbourgh tomorrow. People say that Edinbourgh is a great place to visit. So this will be our 'sweet escape'. I hope!!!!!!

Yahoo weather says that tomorrow will be raining like crazy..........but we like to believe that they are wrong about that. Time machine has not been invented yet so........they can be wrong (I am aware of the fact that I am being cynical by saying that......).

So plan A is to take our umbrellas with us and figure it out what to do when we get there, we are still working on plan B (my proposal for plan B is to not take umbrellas at all and to pretend that we don't mind getting wet and that we love to walk around town while it's raining. Of course that is just a thought).

Anyway I am sure it will be great ( I am saying this only because we already bought the tickets :) hahhahahahah

Earthquake

Yesterday around 11:00 in the morning we were waiting to meet a professor at the Postgraduate Statistic Centre when it felt like an earthquake but when I looked at my friend Alban he was like no probably someone slammed a door or something. But really it wasn't felt that much here at the University we were told later on by the professor that that was actually an earthquake. Luckily no one was hurt, just a bit of panic in some cities in north of England where the earthquake was more intensive.

Visit to Morecambe

Couple of days we visited a small city hear near Lancaster, Morecambe. We enjoyed walking by the sea, hearing the noise that waves of water make when they hit the shore. It also rained a lot that day and we got completely wet, but thats just one side of the story. Yeah, I can't believe we completely ignored those clouds that were covering the sky. Anyway we were very hungry, therefore we went to eat lunch, I can't remember what I ordered since the name of that food was kind of long, but I know it was simply chips, chicken, sallad and some other things that I can't remember because i didn't that much time looking at it I just showed it the way to my stomach!!!!!!But the food was nice I only regret for ordering using the option GO LARGE by which you get a lot more food.

After having eaten lunch we decided to go end play bowling, now that was a good idea, I love playing bowling, I always do well on the first game but I get tired of it after two games (this only applies to bowling :)

Tea break is the name for it

Here I am drinking coffee/tea with my friend Bedri, I just thought, why not, let's just make a random photo!

I have always criticized people who wear clothes that have something written on them and they don't even know what it means (often something that can be considered "bad" or "inappropriate"). But it happens to be that I have this jumper that has something written on, well as you can see it's in Chinese, so there is no way for me to know what it means, but I wear it because it's very comfortable (it really is!). Here in the department of statistics we have a guy from China Huan, so one day i thought, why don't I just ask him what does this thing written on my jumper mean. Well Huan is a very good student but his English is not so good but he tried to explain, so after his description, the best guess was that it means NAKED or something close to that............. But hey..... who cares... I like this jumper so i decided to keep wearing it, funny maybe, but I will continue to wear it, with pride :D ehehhhehehehehhhhh

Act two

Respected viewers of this blog (as few as you are ehehehe). Since you did not like the previous post I was obligated to update the blog.

Three days ago, Abanians (Kosovans) students staying  here in Lancaster and decided to gather for dinner at Qemajl's place (his place is bigger than our small rooms), to celebrate the first anniversary of Kosova's independence, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! 

We do remember all the people who gave everything they had for this freedom that we have today. Decades of sacrifice of Albanians to have what was taken from us unfairly, freedom. therefore this day is of a great importance to me and all Albanians ( and I hope for all other people who live is Kosova) and for many other reasons.

We had a great time, we ate, drank, sang and listened to 100% Albanian music. 

As you can see everybody was drinking bear, but I simply prefer Coke :)

Some of us even decided to dance, that was pretty! I would of danced but as I am really bad at it I just skipped this part of the party, maybe I did few steps, but that was just cause of the really good music, hard to resist. 

As you can see there in the photo Skender was really happy as he got to dance with three really beautiful ladies. His dream came true that night :D, we were all so proud of him hahahahha. So, this is for you Skender, not only you danced with girls, but I have pictures to prove it.

So here I was, really tired, I should not be tired though, I did nothing else accept for sitting and reading and writing (typing). But I guess this kind of tiredness is the worst one! 

Well, after the party there is nothing else for us left to do so, back to lectures we goooooooo!

A 'story'

Just to begin with i would like to tell you that this is kind of a story but not really, it's more like a study or better yet an 'observation'.  The sample size  of this study are five women living in Prishtina.  The purpose of this observation was to find out whether women living in Prishtina like more man who were born in urban area (i.e. man who were born and live in Prishtina currently) or men who live in Prishtina (paying the rent, not owning the apartment) but were born in rural areas (as I am part of this  category I know that these people are very often called village guys, which is not very niceeee OK!). Leaving aside personal feelings about this hhahahahaha, I would like to go on and tell you the conclusion made based on that observation. Well, very simple 100 % of of the total number of women agreed that they like ( by that I mean they would like to marry) more men who come from village because there is a higher chance of convincing them to live together in one apartment and not to live with their family as they don't like to go back to live in the village (so they say) , whereas they say that men who were born in Prishtina (or so called 'cool guys' or in Albanian 'kullerat') there is less chance to convince them to rent an apartment because most probably they would insist to live together with their parents in their apartment ( which can be a real mess but not necessarily a bad thing). 

OK, please don't be offended,  this observation was made based on a small sample and very easily the reality can be different. 

For the end I would like to say that this is "a lie based on a true story".
